UPDATE INFO / RELEASE NOTES

v6.0.9 – 2022-03-25

Fixes

Registration
  – Fixed a problem that could cause the app. to ask to enter the licensing code even if it was already registered.
External drawings
  – SHP and DXF files are now properly drawn on top of raster images
  – SHP files having absolute grid coordinates were assumed in “meters”. The app. now uses the unit set from System Settings > Unit of Measure > Distance Unit.
Raster images
  – When importing a raster image with its World File, the app. now asks to specify in which unit the World File was saved. This is required because the World File does not specify the unit of measure.
  – When georeferencing a raster image, the resulting World File is now written out using the unit set from System Settings > Unit of Measure > Distance Unit.
GPS connection
  – GPS connections using WiFi could not work if a cellular data connection was active (the OS could redirect the connection attempt to the cellular data connection).

v5.2.0 revision O, released on December 9, 2021

Fixes/Enhancements:

COGO

Hidden Point – Distance-distance intersection
The collected point names were not shown.

GPS

One Point GPS Localization
The point names of the GPS points used to define the localization are now stored for reference.
GPS Localization
– Imported points having only planimetric coordinates but no GPS coordinates are automatically disabled. The user must enable the points after entering the GPS coordinates. This to avoid trying to calculate a localization with points having invalid GPS coordinates.
– If the localization uses more than one point (not a simple translation), the user is asked to confirm the computed/used scale factor value when applying the localization.
– When exiting from the localization screen by pressing the Back button, the app does not prompt to activate the localization. The localization will be applied only using the Apply button.
– New option to only show the enabled points which are used in the calculation.

Sensor Disabled : the sensor is disabled
Waiting for sensor data : the app is waiting for the sensor to send some data (rarely shown)
 e-Bubble - Tilt angle : N° : the e-Bubble mode is activated, inclination is N°
e-Bubble - Unreliable : the e-Bubble mode is activated, inclination is unreliable (and not shown)
Tilt OFF - Tilt angle : N° : the Tilt compensation mode has been DISABLED because of a non FIXED solution or non accurate results, approximate inclination is N°
Tilt ON - Tilt angle : N° : the Tilt compensation mode has been ENABLED and it is accurate, inclination is N°

A solid filled circle indicates if the sensor can be used (green color) or not (red color).

Reference Systems

USA
Added the 134 reference systems of NAD27 (SPC), grouped by the country name “USA/NAD27”.
The conversion from the NAD83(2011) datum to the NAD27 datum is automatic and it uses the official NGS Nadcon5 grids.
Note: the NGS grids are not included in the APK. They will be downloaded from our servers when any of the NAD27 reference systems is selected. The download size is of about 310MB in size.
Norway
Added ETRS89/NTM reference systems (zones from 5 to 30).

Note: the ICSM Australia grid is not included in the APK. It will be downloaded from our servers when any of the “GDA2020 to GDA94” reference systems is selected. The download size is of about 32MB in size.
ITRF conversion
The ITRF conversion can be enabled for the Predefined Reference Systems (it was already possible to change the geoid model).

Geoids

Australia
Added AUSGeoid09 and AUSGeoid2020.

Mexico
Added GGM10.

Data Import

CSV
Import from CSV has been highly optimized to reduce load times.
Predefined import formats with the Code in the 2nd field were not working properly.
The formats using the space as the field delimiter now support decoding CSV lines which uses multiple spaces.
GIS – SHP Import
DBF files with non-ASCII/non-UTF-8 field names could crash the application.
Shapefiles with geographical coordinates are projected using the active reference system.

If the current project’s reference system was coming from RTCM messages, that reference system was not proposed as the default reference system for new projects.

Minor bug fixes

v5.2.0 revision N, released on October 10, 2021

New features:

Support for Stonex SR02 Bluetooth Radio

Cube-a can connect to the radio and forward the incoming correction data to the connected GNSS Rover device or RTK Tablet.
All Stonex GNSS Rover devices/RTK Tablets which support the “Phone Network” are also compatible with the use of the external Bluetooth Radio.

Auxiliary Point record settings

This is a new record setting. It is like the existing “Topo Point” record setting, and it is used instead of the latter when GPS point collecting is performed outside of the Survey screen (COGO, Total Station resection,…).
We added the new setting to avoid the user having to edit the “Topo Point” setting.

Change the Record Settings on the fly

If the Quick Mode is not enabled, after collecting a GPS point, the Point Collect screen shows up (the title can vary).
In the said screen, a new icon on the top right corner allows to change the parameters of the active Record Settings.
This to let the user to change the parameters on the fly, i.e., allow a FLOAT solution, relax RMS checks and so on.

Enhancements:

Reference Systems

Added Great Britain reference system: ETRS89/OSGB36 British National Grid, OSTN15+OSGM15 (EPSG code: 27700).
The grid shift files are included.
The geoid file is not included in the APK: enable the reference system, then edit the geoid settings, use SEARCH to find and download Great Britain (osgm15_grb.ugf).

Changes to the ETRS89/OSGB 1936 (3.5m 95%)
It was giving wrong results (this is anyway an approximated system using 7 parameters).

Czech Republic: corrected the v1710 grid shifts, added CR-2005 geoid.
The grid shift file is included.
The geoid file is not included in the APK: enable the reference system, then edit the geoid settings, use SEARCH to find and download Czech Republic (CzechRep_CR2005_v1005.ugf).

Added Libya reference systems
Libya zones 5-14 / ELD79, Libya UTM zones 32N-35N / ELD79, Libya TM 12 NE / ELD79, Libya TM / LGD2006, Libya TM zones 5-13 / LGD2006, Libya UTM zones 32N-36N / LGD2006.

Added COLUMBIA, MAGNA-SIRGAS / CTM12 (temporary EPSG code: 38820).

Added more South America reference systems
South America PSAD56 – UTM zones 17-22, South America SAD69 – UTM zones 17-22.

Fixed the ETRF89/BGS2005-CCS2005 – LCC reference system (EPSG code: 7801)
It was giving wrong results (false Easting and false Northing were swapped).

GIS

Attributes lookup lists

Added CSV file import filter.

Lookup values in the imported lists can be “one value per row”.
The “stored value” will be set equal to the “shown value” if the first is missing.

Feature Lists

Added a new command to duplicate the selected feature (to speed up the definition of similar features; the Field Name is automatically increased/changed).

Added commands to change the order of the defined features (move up, move down).

User Interface

Main Menu

When the Total Station is enabled, the Device icon is now a Total Station (it was GPS).

Display Settings

New option to enable/disable the square symbols drawn on DXF entities to show the base vertices (customer’s request).

Data Export

DXF (with CAD entities): new option to store the texts (name, code and height) in a block together with the point symbol.
This allows to select the point by a click on one of the texts.
New ALRO1 export format (dealer request).
New MUC export format (dealer request).

Other fixes:

Main Menu pages

Scroll with swing was inverted

Custom Formats

The Delete command was deleting the selected format without a user confirmation request.

Point collection with e-bubble

The point could get stored multiple times with different names.

Main Menu – Icon selection was reset to the first icon after 1 second

The menu was rebuilt once per second to show the STOP RAW DATA button. The menu is now rebuilt only if its contents change.

IMU Calibration when using OnePole (TS+GPS at the same time)

The animations for the IMU calibration were not showing up while in TS mode.
The animations now show up when the app is inside a screen which allows to record GPS points.

GPS Base setup

It was not possible to use the coordinates of an imported point (local coordinates without greographical coordinates).
The application converts the local coordinates to geographical coordinates using the active reference system.

v5.2.0 revision M, released on September 10, 2021

Enhancements:

GIS attributes export as CSV (Custom Format)

Attribute names are exported in the CSV Header Row.
Attribute values are exported as other data (no more as FIELDNAME:FIELDVALUE pairs).

CSV – Custom format export

The export was failing if no GIS Attributes field was specified.

v5.2.0 revision K, released on September 6, 2021

Enhancements:

GIS – Export of points and CAD entities as shapefiles without attributes

This new export format (“Points and CAD entities to shapefile”) is available also if the GIS feature is not enabled.
The application will ask to choose which type of entities to export and then it will write out the shapefile or multiple shapefiles.

GIS – CSV export of point data and GIS attributes

A new special field (named “GIS Attributes”) has been added to the list of fields which can be used to compose a customized CSV export.
If a custom CSV file format definition includes the “GIS Attributes” field, the application will also export the GIS attributes as a list of “NAME:VALUE” fields.
The “GIS Attributes” field must always be the last field of the row definition (not to change the order of other fields when the number of GIS attributes changes).

Fixes:

RW5 export: the app was exporting COGO AUX points and calculated points as SP rows

If possible, AUX and calculated points are now exported as GPS points.

Local points with GPS coordinates

At project load, the app was recalculating the grid coordinates of local points but only if they had valid GPS coordinates also.
This has been fixed: local points (i.e. with fixed grid coordinates) are never recalculated.

v5.2.0 revision J, released on September 2, 2021

Enhancements:

GPS: Stonex S580 support (some new features of the S580 need a new firmware, wait for the Stonex Support announcement for the new firmware availability).

– CSV import of Lat/Lon/H with DEG angles could import lat,lon as 0,0.
– Covariance matrices: the app could take a very long time to check and fix possibly non-positive-definite matrices.
– Import of a Reference System using the QR Code Scanner was not working.

v5.2.0 revision I, released on August 28, 2021

– Enhancements:

– Import/Export: selected file formats are saved and restored.
– Collected point editing:
– the Code can be selected from the Feature Code library. Changing the Feature Code will also change the point layer (if the feature code specifies a layer).
– the Layer can be now changed.
– Secondary data files (PD files): as for the main project data file, when creating secondary PD files, it is now possible to select a Configuration to automatically create the CAD layers.
– GIS Features: TEXT and DECIMAL fields can be programmed to store the Latitude, Longitude or Ellipsoidal Height of the collected point.
– GIS Editing: from the Edit Point screen, the GIS Data button allows to edit the GIS attributes associated with the point. The button will show up only if GIS support has been enabled (at project creation time or from Project Details).

– Fixes:

– External Drawings: a coordinate conversion problem could result in a totally blank survey screen (GPS arrow and points were not showing up).
– Some exports were not ignoring deleted points.
– Layers’ visibility flags were reset after reopening a project.
– Swiss CH1903+/LV95 adjusted (as from EPSG:2056 definition).
– Sri Lanka/SLD99 adjusted (as from EPSG:5235 definition).
– Vietnam/VN2000 adjusted and renamed to VN-2000/TM-3 105-45 (as from EPSG:9210 definition).
– The app was automatically converting 7 parameters from Bursa-Wolf to the corresponding Helmert parameters (by inverting the signs of the rotation angles). This has been fixed: the user entered 7-parameters mode is now kept. – Point Library: P and G columns (Photo and GIS data indicators) were not working as expected.
– CAD: some minimal fixes and changes for a better stability.
– Covariance matrices: some matrices could result non positive definite with xy=xx. The application automatically detects such wrong matrices and adjusts the xy value as required.

v5.2.0 revision G, released on August 20, 2021

– Geoids:
Geoid files are no more included in the APK: this reduces the APK size which was over 200MB and growing.
Users can download the geoid files using the SEARCH button in the Geoid option of the Reference System settings.

– GPS – Sensor Options:
The Sensor Options can be open by long-tapping on the REC button.
This reduces the taps required to open the options screen from 2 to 1.
The options screen will open only if the connected GPS device has a tilt sensor or an e-bubble sensor.

– Fixes
– Point/Vertex selection from external drawing: the search could wrongly skip some elements.
– GPS localization: the ADD button was not working as expected.
– Projection files (SP): importing a ref. system from an SP file could invert the signs of the 7 parameter rotations.

v5.2.0 revision E, released on August 17, 2021

– Enhancements:
– Base setup, Set base coordinates>Use current GPS position
The point can be optionally stored in the Point Library.

– Fixes
– After automatically removing the active localization, the application was not recalculating the grid coordinates of the points using the restored reference system.
– Crash opening Device>Information>Network Info.
– Feature codes: the panel in the survey screen could show fewer codes than those actually present in the code library.

v5.2.0 revision D, released on August 14, 2021

This is a cumulative update that includes all changes to the application that have been released by targeted updates and beta releases distributed between June and August 2021.

– Project Manager enhancements
Grid and List views, number of points in the listed projects

– New Project Wizard
A new, two-page wizard has been introduced: the Wizard guides the user in the creation of a new project.
The first page is almost equal to the older New Project page with the following changes:
– the automatically generated project name can have a numeric postfix which is added to make the automatic project name unique.
– it is possible to select a Configuration which defines: the Symbol Library to use, the set of CAD Layers to create in the project.
The second page is new and it allows an easy selection of the Reference System:
– it is possible to select a recently used Reference System, import it from file or from another project, or select it from the list of Predefined Reference Systems;
– the Info button shows all the parameters which define the selected Reference System.

– New Project Defaults command
In Configure>System Settings, the command New Project Defaults allows the user to:
– Select the global Default Symbol Library setting;
– Manage a list of Configurations, where each configuration defines some settings to apply to a new project:
– the list of CAD layers to add to the project (including name, color, …);
– the Symbol Library to use (either a specific Symbol Library or the option “*Use Global Setting* to use the library chosen at global level).
Each configuration has a unique name and some row of notes.
The settings stored in each Configuration is expected to grow as per user feedback.

– User Coordinate Systems
This new command allows the user to manage the list of recently used Reference Systems:
– add another Reference System to the list, importing it from file or from another project, or selecting it from the list of Predefined Reference Systems;
– rename a Reference System;
– delete a Reference System;
– activate a Reference System;
– view the parameters which define the selected Reference System.

– Predefined Reference Systems list
The list has been modified to show more data without the need to scroll horizontally.
Also, the selected Country is automatically saved and restored so that the user has not to select it again.
Some commands, which were displayed in a list, have their own dedicated button.
The parameters of predefined and not-editable Reference Systems can be visualized using the new Details button.
When the user selects a Reference System from this page, it is automatically added to the User Coordinate Systems list.

– File Manager (sub-project data files)
Added sorting by name/date.
Added point count and last modified date.

– One Point GPS Localization
Easily define a Local Reference System based on ground distances, centered at one given GPS point, and translated to the specified local coordinates (2D or 3D).
The program automatically calculates the Combined Scale Factor to convert grid distances to ground distances and back.
Optionally, adding 2 more points (2D), it is possible to rotate the system to match any wanted local direction.
Collected GPS points, used to define the Reference System, can be (optionally) stored in the Point List.

– Automatic fallback to the original Reference System
When computing a GPS Localization (Standard or One Point), if another localization is active, the application automatically restores the original Reference System on which the active Localization was based.
Cancelling the GPS Localization command, the active Localization or Reference System is restored.
This automatic fallback to the original Reference System avoids the annoying manual selection the original Reference System.

– Raster Image Georeferencing
Import and georeference raster images while in the field.

– Total Station – Angular only measures
It is now possible to measure points (directions) without measuring the distance.
Long-press the MEAS button to open the measure screen and tap on the Measure HA button to collect the angles.
To avoid having the collected points displayed over the station position (because of the missing distance), the software assumes a fixed value of the distance (just for display purposes).

– Polyline stakeout as a whole entity
Polylines can be now staked out as a whole entity, that is, the application does not break anymore the polyline in a list of single edges.
The application will automatically select the nearest polyline edge and calculate the directions to reach the edge.
An optional “offset value” allows to stakeout the polyline resulting from the lateral-translation of the edges (the translation is in the left direction if less than zero, in the right direction if greater than zero).
Polylines can also be subdivided in parts (by given part length or number of parts).
For now, this function is limited to GPS stake out only. Total Station stakeout will come later with one automatic update of Cube-a v5.2.0.

– New devices support
Stonex S580 (with selectable offsets to use it mounted on Pole or not)

– New Reference Systems
Bulgaria ETRF89/BGS2005 – UTM zone 34N
Bulgaria ETRF89/BGS2005 – UTM zone 35N

– New geoids
Nigeria/EGM 2008, Slovakia GGF (replaced damaged file), Africa/DRC EGM2008, Paraguay EGM2008, Perù EGM2008.

– Other improvements
– JXL import in the Localization command: the last point couple was not imported; local points are now automatically imported and added to the Point Library.
– CSV import with selectable text encoding from AUTO, ASCII, UTF-8, Win-1252, UNICODE, GB18030.
– Code request screen: the code is selected so that it can be easily overwritten with a new one.
– Automatic text selection in all edits: clicking on an editable field selects its contents so that they can be easily replaced.
– Compass: the compass has an additional arrow which shows the direction of the Reference System’s north.
– COGO, Point by Polar: height calculation options added as already available for the Hidden Point – Dist-Dist Intersection command.

– Bug fixes:
– CAD: after activating another Reference System, the Zoom All command could use the old bounds.
– GPS base setup: for imported points, the grid coordinates were not automatically converted to GPS coordinates (they were 0,0,0).
– GPS Quick Point collect mode: when returning from the Stakeout screen, the automatic point name increment could not work.
– Pregeo DAT (Italy): automatic conversion from local to GPS coordinates was using wrong coordinates (E,N were swapped).
– Ref. System page: cancelling the Reference System edit with the BACK button (physical button) was not restoring the previous settings.
– RW5 export: after modifying the pole height of a point, the app was writing out the old point height (a project reload was solving the problem though).
– GPS with e-bubble: changing the antenna height before confirming the point data could store wrong point height (point height adjustment could fail).
– COGO, Hidden Point Dist-Dist: auxiliary points were automatically stored while collecting them (they are now stored only after confirming the calculation).
– CSV import: importing points with no elevation info could fail.

  • Settings: – Shortcut keys
  • Fixed a problem in the shortcut keys definition screen.
  • Data export:
    – Share job
  • The application could crash if for any reason the ZIP file could not be created.

v4.3.22B released on October 2nd, 2020

This release updates Cube-a 4.3.22A, 4.3.21 and older versions.

  • GPS:
    – Localization
  • The user is asked to change the reference system if he is trying to calculate a localization starting from another localization or starting from a non-localizable reference system.
Non-localizable reference systems are those which depend on specific parameters or external grid files (the localization is not able to handle them properly).
This change does not change anything but it protects the user from activating invalid/wrong localizations.
  •  – Calibrate – Change station coordinates
  • – The destination coordinates can be selected from the list of existing GPS stations;
    – Surveyed points are recalculated after a GPS station has been moved: the relative spatial (ECEF) distance between the surveyed points and their reference station does not change;
    – The command is now disabled if the reference system is network based (reference system parameters come from RTCM messages and thus the reference system is not defined by the user).
  •  – Base names
  • At project load, GPS bases having different coordinates but the same name are now automatically renamed.
This ensures that the Change station coordinates command properly lists all base stations.
  •  – NMEA settings
  • Frequencies of the NMEA sentences were not being applied immediately. A GPS disconnect-connect cycle was required.
Modified frequencies are now applied immediately if the GPS device is connected.
  • Data Import:
    – CSV
  • Import of big files blocks the app for a long time until the import has terminated.
To let the user understand that the app is just busy and that it is still working fine, a wait message has been added.
  • Data Export:
    – Custom format
  • Fixed some issues in the screen for the creation/editing of custom formats.
The file extension and the angle format settings were not properly saved into the configuration file.
  • CAD:
    – Layers
  • Layer colors were not properly read from the job file: the app was restoring a black color for all layers.
  • PD files:
  • Restored the naming of the first PD file using the same name of the project (instead of Data001.PD).
  • GIS (preview):
  • – the UI to create/edit attribute definitions has been activated (“GIS Feature Sets”);
    – added automatic import of GIS files (3rd party files with the definition of the attributes: copy the GIS files into the GISFeatureSets folder);
    – some bug fixes.
  • Background map:
  • – fixed a problem which caused the background map to show all black (WebGL initialization problem).
    – Google Maps is forced to have a small rotation (0.05°) to remove the annoing lines showing between the map tiles.

v4.3.21 released on September 6, 2020

This release updates Cube-a 4.3.20 and older versions.
This is a cumulative update that includes all changes to the application that have been released by targeted updates and beta releases distributed between August and September 2020.

      – Italy, automatic IGM grid selection: the IGM grid is now selected not only based on the bounds of the grid but also on the distance of the point from the grid center
This to avoid the selection of a nearby partially overlapping grid which contains the point but it is not the “expected” grid for the zone
      – Display of coordinates: many changes have been made to properly show the coordinates when a non metric unit has been selected in the Unit Settings page
      – Point Library: manually entered points were not showing in the Survey screen until the project was reloaded
      – UGF geoids: fixes to better handle longitudes not in the range -180 – +180 degrees (for grids having bounds expressed as positive longitudes in the range 0 – 360 degrees)

This release updates Cube-a 4.2.0.20181126 and older.
This is a cumulative update that includes all changes to the application that have been released by targeted updates and beta releases distributed between December 2018 and January 2019.

What’s new:

    • Some sounds are played while a position averaging or a Stop&Go point collection is in progress. Another beep signals the end of the point collection (before actually storing the point).
    • Share by WiFi function. Basically this starts an FTP Server on the Android device and you can connect to the FTP Server using an FTP Client on the PC side.
This feature allows you to copy files from and into the Android device without the need of an USB cable.
The Android device and the PC must be connected to the same WiFi network.
To protect your device from unauthorized access, the connection is protected by customizable user name and password.
    • OpenStreetMap background layer (vector map only, see System Settings, Map Provider).
    • New geoids (Bangalore-India, Tanzania North, Denmark DVR90, Mexico GGM06, Sweden SW082000 and SW08RH70).
    • New USA Geoid12B (CONUS and all other zones: choose any .bin geoid file from /StonexCube/Geoid/USA/Geoid12B/; the correct geoid file will be automatically chosen by the application based on the actual coordinates of the point).
    • New View in Google Earth command.
Note: points and CAD entities are “clamped to ground”, that is, the heights are ignored and all features are placed on the ground following the terrain.
    • Stonex SC2000 support (WiFi or Bluetooth, rover only, GPS configuration must be performed from the WebUI (enable NMEA output via BT and/or WiFi on port 9000))
    • Generic NMEA support (Bluetooth, rover only).

    • NETCAD (*.ncn) grid point file import/export.
    • External battery indicator (for Stonex GNSS devices that support an external power supply).
    • Better integration with Android MediaScanner (all files and folders should now be accessible from Windows when using an USB cable).
Tech note: if after this update you still cannot see the files from Windows then the MediaScanner database must be reset: clear cache and data files of MediaScanner and External Storage services from Settings|Apps & notifications|App info. You must select to show system apps to find the two services.
    • STONEX Cube A Software for GNSS and TS
    • Reference Station names (bases) are now stored with the “RTCM-Ref” prefix (i.e. “50” becomes “RTCM-Ref 50”).
This to avoid reference stations and collected points having the same name.
    • The application now enforces the use of unique point names for each collected or imported point.
In case of name collision, the ofending name is changed by appending a duplicate number between round brackets.
    • The Vector COGO function becomes Distance function: shows 3D/2D distances, dE/dN/dZ values.
    • The age of differential data is not checked against the user defined age limit when aRTK or Atlas are active.
    • Updated Polish language.
    • Italy, Pregeo DAT export: added an option to control if hidden points must be exported as GPS baselines (row 2, 3D) or as cadastral artifacts (rows 4 and 5, 2D).
    • Italy, raster image georeferencing: read the parameters from an EMP file.
If a EMP file is found into the same folder of the raster image then the EMP file is read to extract the georeferencing parameters.
In case both a World File and a EMP file are found then the World File is used.
    • Fixes to Custom Export formats (auto-save could not work on some devices).
    • Fixes to “Share after export” option (sharing was always starting even if the option was off).
